For further practical information on cycling in France, there are books, guidebooks, maps and websites that you may find useful for preparing your trip and use on your journey. Here’s a selection.

 

Cycling guides

 

There are numerous guidebooks in French that cover the major official cycle routes. You can order them via our shop.

 

Foreign publishing companies also produce guidebooks in English, for example the Bikeline collection published by Esterbauer. You can order these via the following website.

 

 

Cycling in France, published by Lonely Planet

This classic guidebook provides masses of practical information, as well as featuring routes across many French regions. However, note that it does not cover France à Vélo’s official routes.

Maps

IGN map, 1 : 100 000,or 1 km = 1 cmMichelin Map 1 : 200 000 ; 2 Km = 1 cmTwo specialist publishers produce maps that enable you to locate yourself clearly and also, if you wish, to head off from the official routes. Both present routes that are suitable for seasoned cyclists  who are happy to follow the ‘little white roads’ marked on the maps.

 

 

  • Michelin map, 1 : 200 000, or 2 km = 1 cm

 

  • IGN map, 1 : 100 000,or 1 km = 1 cm
